How To Look After Yourself and Others Amidst Quarantine

The world is seeing an unprecedented level of quarantine as the battle against the Covid-19 virus continues.

With cases topping 784,000 globally most people in the US and abroad are in lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus. That’s a huge interruption to everyday life and it is presenting challenges that people do not normally face.

How can you remain fit, healthy and happy under such duress? With news flooding in all the time, it is hard to stay positive and focused on the future, but you must. Looking after yourself in these trying times is of utmost importance, so we’ve put together a short list of methods by which you can ensure you’re in the best condition possible.

Share Information

One of the main ways you can remain focused is by sharing information with your family and loved ones. There is a lot of sensationalist reporting out there, with social media helping to fuel the fear.

By sharing credible information and discussing the situation with friends, you’re helping to break down any fear they may have. The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention offers plenty of facts about the virus and helps to break down some of the myths which are causing people to panic. Only use sources like this when posting information on social media.

Get Exercise

Making sure you get plenty of exercise is important during the quarantine, not just for physical health reasons either. Physical exercise is something that can help you become happier, as it releases serotonin (a feel-good chemical) in your brain, which in turn will help improve your mood.

The good news is that working out at home can be just as effective as the gym, as long as you are doing it properly. Gala Bingo explains how the most important aspect of any exercise routine is the warm-up, as this will get the blood pumping and make sure your body is ready for any type of workout. You can then use furniture like the sofa to perform different kinds of exercises such as triceps dips and step-ups for a full body workout. After whatever exercises you choose, also be sure to warm down correctly as well to prevent injury or strains.

Control Sleep Patterns

It’s important you look to maintain some sense of routine, even on lockdown. That means regular sleep and trying to stick to the hours you’d usually keep. Sleep plays a pivotal role in ensuring you remain in good health, and quality sleep can help protect your mental health, physical health, and quality of life.

Encourage members of your family to do the same, to ensure the household is sticking to a set routine as much as possible. Trying to remain calm and carry on as normal, as much as possible, is key to remaining positive.

Manage Diet

Try to eat as healthily as possible to ensure that you remain in good physical shape. With many fast-food outlets closing, this might be a good time to evaluate your diet and be creative with the ingredients you can get your hands on. Shopping is a challenge for many, with long queues and essentials in high demand, but good quality food is still on the shelves.

Make sure your eating habits stick to a set timetable too, and try to eat meals at the same time you normally would. Get those who are in quarantine with you to eat at the same time and perhaps use it as a time to share any information gleaned in step one.

We put together a self-care article before the outbreak with tips on simple practices which can make you feel happier. They’re more relevant than ever now, so please take a moment to revisit them here.

These are great tips and with so much time on our hands, it’s hard to make an excuse for not exercising. I think I’ve seen more people outside walking everyday than ever. I hope their healthy habits continue after quarantine!

I agree. As a matter of fact, I went for a walk with my daughter yesterday and it was nice to see people out doing the same thing. It wasn’t good for social distancing as we had to keep crossing the street to avoid them, but going for walks definitely puts a little bit of normalcy back into our lives.

I agree. I also think that working out in the morning also puts you in a different state of mind to eat healthier throughout the day.
