8 Budget-Friendly Room Refreshing Ideas

by The Organized Dream

When it comes to decorating your home, the money can really add up fast. Why redo an entire room when you can refresh your space with a few new pieces and these handy tricks!

1. Create A “Bigger” Space

Utilize the mirrors in your home. It’s no secret that  a mirror can make a room appear larger, but placing your mirror across from a window can increase the light in your space and make it seem larger, too! You can also place a mirror opposite an artwork or wallpaper. Doing so will create more of an impact.

2.  Upgrade Doors & Cabinets

Okay, now I’m not talking about completely replacing these pieces, but changing out the handles and applying a fresh coat of paint can give any room a face lift. There are a lot of inexpensive knobs for cabinetry like these Crystal Cabinet Knobs. They’re a great touch in a kitchen or bathroom and are a bargain at $8.99 for 10!

3. Simple Bathroom Upgrades

Sometimes adding new shower curtain is all a bathroom needs to look like a new room. It’s ideal to work with your bathroom to create the perfect space. If you have windows in your bathroom, you can easily go with dark, rich colors. Don’t have a window? Opt for bright whites or neutral tones to add a bright, airy look. Looking for a great shower curtain without a hefty price tag? This Striped Fabric Shower Curtain is bright, will add just the right amount of visual interest and is priced under $20.

4. Rearrange Your Wall Decor

You don’t have to buy all new wall decor to update a room. You can take what you already have and rearrange them for an instant new look. I’ve often taken pieces from other rooms and swapped them out and moved them around. If you find that you still need a few new pieces to add, try looking in the clearance sections to your local decor and craft stores. You can visit T.J. Maxx, Home Goods, Big Lots and even the clearance section of Hobby Lobby for great deals on one-of-a-kind items for your space.

5. Pillows, Pillows, Pillows

One of my absolute favorite ways to decorate a space is by adding throw pillows! Yes, throw pillows can be a little pricey. This is especially true if you’re a fan of popular decor trends, but here’s a trick! Try updating your existing throw pillows with pillow covers! There are plenty of places to shop for pillow covers and many of them can be found for under $10. I have even been lucky to find pillow covers on the Wish app that were good quality for under $5. My favorite pillow covers of all time are these pillow covers I added to my bedroom.

6. Mix New with Old

To create visual interest and your own unique style into your home, try mixing old, vintage pieces with your new, modern pieces. Try shopping yard sales or thrift stores for vintage finds. You can use these pieces as-is or DIY an upcycled piece for a specific purpose. On more than one occasion I’ve done this. Check out my DIY Farmhouse Sign Makeover for inspiration.

7. Upgrade Lighting

Update your lighting to completely change the look of a room. Go brighter or dimmer. Add or remove lighting pieces for the perfect look. You don’t have to install new lighting fixtures either. By swapping out old light fixtures for new ones makes instantly updates your room and can be easily done in less than an hour. I have been wanting to do this in my kitchen for some time. I really like this wall light and think it would look great above my kitchen sink.

8. Mix and Match

Coordinate hard and soft pieces together to create a lived-in, cozy look to any room. You can do this with simple items like pillows, baskets and other items with varied textures or with furniture, too. Again, shop clearance sections of your favorite stores or thrift stores for pieces for a more curated look to your home.

There are so many ways to add your own touch to a room and these are just some ideas on how to recreate a new home without breaking the bank.
